Uganda today 19th May 2015 joined the rest of the world to launch the #SavekidsLives campaign in Kampala. The event that was held at WHO Kampala was graced by the Hon. Minister of State for Primary Health Care, Hon. Sarah Aceng Opendi representing the Uganda Government. Participants were drawn from Government MDAs, civil society, academia, media and the private sector.
The minister emphasised the need for a multi-sectral approach in the enforcement of road safety in the country. The WHO statement was read by Dr. Kisa Solomon on behalf of the Country Representative.
The country wide campaign is on going across the country and will run till end of April/ mid May 2016 focusing on schools (primary and secondary), local leaders, boda boda transporters and the traveling public. The #SavekidsLives Uganda Team (Commonwealth Association-Uganda, Hope for for traffic Victims, Parental roles in Values empowerment and the Civil Society Coalition on Transport) are very appreciative to the sponsors, WHO, Basco Paints and Rwenzori Bottling Co. Ltd., Lohana Academy and Busega Preparatory School and the Injury Control Centre Uganda and the Uganda Government.
