With support from The National Medical Stores, The Commonwealth Peoples’ Association of Uganda (CPAUG) held a Population & Health Youth Summit 2014 Held at Our Lady of Good Counsel-Gayaza attended by around 350 students. Opening the Summit the Deputy Head Teacher thanked (CPAUG) for having chosen his school to host this summit and commented that the students will be able to use the knowledge acquired in their learning process.
The General Manager, NMS Mr. Moses Kamabare gave a Keynote Address to the students and took them through the difference between drugs and medicine, the role of NMS, its mandate and the responsibility of the students towards their health. He informed the students that “75% of the diseases taken to hospitals are preventable if we all take care of our health.” He ended by answering some questions from the students and invited the school to organize a study tour of NMS in entente in the future.
others speakers included Mr. Ahumuza John Vianney, Coordinator Civil Sociaety Coalition on Transport -CISCOT who spoke about Transportation, health & population, Mr. Solomon M. Kalema shared noted on Agriculture and Population and Mr. Tom Maani talked about parental roles & Population.
The Summit ended with an A & Q session with the students who raised several key issues from health, medicine, human safety, and the role of young people. The next Summit will be held in June.July 2015 with more schools.
